PROGRAM DESIGN: RTS facilitates a variety of youth programs including after-school, summer camps, retreats, conferences and summer employment opportunities reaching thousands of young people throughout NYC each year. RTS emphasizes the youth development practice of the Circle of Courage in all our programs; creating an environment of Belonging, where young people can build their Independence, find and develop their Mastery skill, and practice Generosity in their communities. At the core of our programs are staff training strategies that enable our young professionals to develop extraordinarily meaningful relationships with the young people in their care who we call Our Future Leaders because that is what they all are. 

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The primary functions of the Program Director are threefold: i) to ensure that the RTS mission and vision of positive youth development is carried into practice at program, ii) to ensure that program staff are clear on program goals, are given the direction and support they need to achieve those goals, are given regular and meaningful feedback on their work, are valued as employees, and are given multiple opportunities to grow and learn, and iii) to build and maintain positive relationships with all key stakeholders. 

ORGANIZATIONAL ROLE: 

Reports: Youth Workforce Program Manager   

Supervises: Younger Youth Program (Ages 14 – 16), Pathways Program 

Hours: Full time, Monday – Friday 

Compensation: $58,500 – $60,000 per year 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Operate SYEP program with an enrollment of 300+ participants. 

  • Support operation of WLG program with an enrollment of 140+ participants. 

  • Manage Pathways program for New Newyokers, (Recent Arrival Students) and other Younger Youth ages 14-16. 

  • Manage Hiring, develop train, and supervise program staff and participants. 

  • Manage staff evaluation process and conduct evaluations regularly. 

  • Organized events for student appreciation, worksite, professional development, college and career readiness field trips. 

  • Manage program projects, contracts, SYEP and WLG budget, career fairs, and self-learning opportunities. 

  • Ensure program database is updated weekly such as attendance and program schedule. 

  • Maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders such as community partnerships, participants, and parents. 

  • Work with Educational Specialist to design BPL curriculum (Pathways Program), lesson planning, and train instructors. 

  • Work with the Education Department to ensure age-appropriate and engaging programming. 

  • Work with the Operations Department to ensure proper paperwork, staffing, and supply budgets. 

  • Work with the Senior Program Director to manage logistics and quality of program. 

  • Work with other team members to develop strategic planning and program implementation. 

  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as requested by the Senior Program Director. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • A degree in Education or related field. 

  • At least two years of experience in supervision and program development. 

  • At least 2 years managing SYEP/WLG/Pathways programs 

  • At least four years of direct experience in mentoring or leadership setting. 

  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Power Point, and Google Docs. 

  • Great interpersonal skills and knowledge of SYEP/DYCD regulations. 

WORKING CONDITIONS  

  • Work takes place in one or more school buildings, which may require climbing stairs.  

  • Typical job hours are 9 am -5 pm, Monday - Friday, and events that take place during occasional nights and weekends.  

  • Travel via public transportation or car may be required throughout NYC.

  • Efficiently manage operational systems, including data collection and stakeholder communication, to maintain operational effectiveness.

  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, ensuring that the program remains connected and relevant.   

  • Adapt to changing environments and needs, fostering innovation and engagement through changing leadership.   

  • Represent the program, its participants, staff, and families at various levels, advocating for their needs and the program's success.
