PROGRAM DESIGN: Roads to Success (RTS) facilitates a variety of youth programs including after-school, summer camps, retreats, conferences and summer employment opportunities reaching thousands of young people throughout NYC each year. RTS emphasizes the youth development practice of the Circle of Courage in all our programs; creating an environment of Belonging, where young people can build their Independence, find and develop their Mastery skill, and practice Generosity in their communities. At the core of our programs are staff training strategies that enable our young professionals to develop extraordinarily meaningful relationships with the young people in their care who we call Our Future Leaders because that is what they all are.

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Family Support and Benefits Manager plays a pivotal role at Roads to Success, dedicated to enhancing the well-being and success of our students and their families, particularly those living at or below the poverty line. This role encompasses the management and coordination of a comprehensive array of benefit-related services and resources. A key aspect of this position involves providing robust support to community school staff, including CBO staff and school faculty, to facilitate the achievement of program goals. The Family Support and Benefits Manager is instrumental in ensuring that families have access to the necessary resources and support systems to thrive both within and outside the educational environment.

ORGANIZATIONAL ROLE:

Supervisor: Community School Director
Supervises: Program Staff and School Age Students
Hours: Full time, Monday – Friday
Compensation: $65,000 per year


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Collaborative Service Planning:
  • Work closely with the Community School Director to create tailored service plans for families in need, ensuring these plans address the unique challenges and goals of each family.
  • Conduct regular follow-ups and adjustments to service plans, ensuring they remain effective and responsive to the evolving needs of the families.
Goal-Oriented Support:
  • Provide focused assistance to parents and children to facilitate the achievement of their specific service plan goals, leveraging the resources and programs available.
  • Organize and facilitate participation in recreational, educational, and developmental programs that align with the service plans, enhancing the overall well-being and growth of the families and children.
Community Partnership Development:
  • Forge and maintain strategic partnerships within Community School District 4, enhancing the resource network available for the families.
  • Represent the organization at community forums, roundtables, and other relevant events, fostering collaborative opportunities and community engagement.
Resource Accessibility:
  • Assist families in navigating and accessing necessary services, including healthcare, SNAP benefits, housing, and other critical support systems.
  • Serve as a bridge between families and service providers, ensuring a smooth and effective connection to the resources they need.
Progress Documentation:
  • Diligently document the progress of families within the Community School District system, ensuring notes are detailed, informative, and purpose driven.
  • Regularly review and analyze progress notes to identify trends, successes, and areas for improvement in service delivery.
Professional Development:
  • Actively participate in weekly individual supervisions, enhancing professional growth and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Attend all mandatory trainings and staff meetings and serve on committees as assigned, contributing to and benefiting from continuous learning and development opportunities.
Community Mapping:
  • Keep the Community Mapping Directory up to date, ensuring it accurately reflects current resources, contacts, and services available within the community.
Liaison Role:
  • Act as a key liaison with the Parent Coordinator of the Community School, facilitating effective communication and collaboration for the benefit of the families.
Financial and Housing Assistance:
  • Work directly with clients to identify specific financial, housing, and health needs, providing personalized support and referrals to appropriate services.
Public Assistance Guidance:
  • Assist low-income families and individuals in understanding and navigating public assistance programs, including determining eligibility and guiding them through the application processes.
Additional Responsibilities:
•     Perform other related duties and responsibilities as requested by the Community School Director

QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, Human Services, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in benefits administration, social services, or a related field.
  • Deep understanding of public benefit programs.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in data management and reporting systems.
  • Experience in crisis intervention and support.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Work takes place in one or more school buildings, which may require climbing stairs.
  • Typical job hours are 9 am -5 pm, Monday - Friday, and events will take place during occasional nights and weekends.
  • Travel via public transportation or car may be required throughout NYC.

  • Comprehensive case management which includes assessing needs, planning services, monitoring progress, and evaluating outcomes to ensure effective support for families.
  • Create and nurture a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment that prioritizes the safety and emotional well-being of all participants.
  • Actively foster collaboration among community school staff and families, promoting a unified and supportive atmosphere.
  • Align all activities with the program's goals, focusing on creating family-centered outcomes and ensuring strategic implementation.
  • Efficiently manage operational systems, including data collection and stakeholder communication, to maintain operational effectiveness.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, ensuring that the program remains connected and relevant.
  • Adapt to changing environments and needs, fostering innovation and engagement through change leadership.
  • Represent the program, its participants, staff, and families at various levels, advocating for their needs and the program's success.
