PROGRAM DESIGN: Roads to Success (RTS) facilitates a variety of youth programs including after-school, summer camps, retreats, conferences and summer employment opportunities, reaching thousands of young people throughout NYC each year. RTS emphasizes the youth development practice of the Circle of Courage in all our programs; creating an environment of Belonging, where young people can build their Independence, find and develop their Mastery skill, and practice Generosity in their communities. At the core of our programs are staff training strategies that enable our young professionals to develop extraordinarily meaningful relationships with the young people in their care who we call Our Future Leaders because that is what they all are.
PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Job Developer’s main goal is to build internship opportunities for high students in the Learn & Eean program. The candidate does this by successfully matching the areas of interest expressed by the participants served and connecting with businesses and community-based organizations to recruit them as internship placements. Hence, candidates must have a strong understanding of the local labor market trends and issues, understand basic business practices, and carry out assignments and projects without detailed instruction.
About the Learn & Earn Program: The Learn & Earn program is a year-round, career exploration and academic support initiative for New York City high school juniors and seniors. It helps participants build work readiness skills, explore careers, receive academic tutoring and college application assistance, engage in leadership and service-learning activities, and gain real-world experience through a paid yearlong and summer internships. The program is aimed at low-income youth and other eligible groups to support their graduation and preparation for post-secondary education or employment. The program is funded by NYC’s Department of Youth & Community Development (DYC).
ORGANIZATIONAL ROLE:
Supervisor: Program Director
Supervises: N/A
Hours: Full-time Monday- Friday
Compensation: $57k-$60k based on experience
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Establish and maintain strong partnerships with Local business and organizations to create internship opportunities
Meet regularly with various hiring managers/CBO liaisons to promote community engagement
Stay engaged with internship sites, to ensure successful completion of the program cycle
Develop internships in a diverse range of employment fields to match students’ interests, skills, maturity levels and experience.
Collaborate across all Team efforts to ensure youth placements, including YEPS processing
Ensures that all pre-assessment documents are collected and processed
Lead orientation sessions for new and repeating worksites
Support with hosting Job Fairs across all contracts
Conduct community outreach to assure awareness of internships needs
Follows up on participants’ progress/success
Maintain computerized and hard copy Aduit documents
Prepare statistical program reports to show trends to support growth opportunities
Maintain a professional working environment
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in youth development, education, social services, or a related field.
Understanding of youth development programs (knowledge of DYCD-funded programs, ideal but not required)
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in data management and reporting systems.
Experience in crisis intervention and support.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work takes place in one or more school buildings, which may require climbing stairs.
Typical job hours are 9 am -5 pm, Monday - Friday, and events will take place during occasional nights and weekends.
Travel via public transportation or car may be required throughout NYC.
